Messi talks about why he won the Ballon d’Or ahead of Lewandowski

Messi, who is aged 34, surpassed the likes of Karim Benzema, Robert Lewandowski and Cristiano Ronaldo to take the award in a wonderful award show which took place on Monday in the France capital, Paris.

Messi won the Ballon d’Or in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and in 2015.

Messi acknowledge that the reason he might have won the 2021 Ballon d’Or is that he was one of the driving forces that caused Argentina to win the Copa America.

Messi further expatiated that Lewandowski deserved to win the Ballon d’Or award last year. The reason being that the Robert Lewandowski Poland striker would have been in the top 3 picks for the Ballon d’Or in 2020. He scored a total of 45 goals in 37 games he played for Bayern Munich. Unfortunately, the award was cancelled.

Messi’s Argentina beat Brazil’s Team 1-0 in the Copa America final in Rio de Janeiro as Messi won a huge title with his nation for the first time.
